TCCE is delighted to announce our third Philosophy and the Visual Arts Salon, developed in collaboration with the Philosophy Department at King’s College London.

We have been running various salons together over a number of years and, in so doing, we bring complex philosophical notions into contact with a wider public sphere. This series explores the relationship between philosophy and the visual arts and, on 25th May, we are pleased to present Sacha Golob in conversation with artist Alinah Azadeh.

Alinah Azadeh is a UK artist working across media. Whether a small sculpture or a dialogue with a stranger on the street  – her works are rooted in the disclosure of intimate poetic and personal narratives, which act as a bridge into the work for others to take.

At this salon, Alinah will discuss with Philosopher Dr Sacha Golob how, through acts of gift, ritual and playful exchange, her works create dialogue around the nature of loss, longing and our social and cultural identities.

Alinah is currently undertaking a period of R+D supported by Arts Council England/GH Foundation for Peace, to develop an interactive audio App exploring conflict transformation, place, identity and collective memory –  in collaboration with Craig Larkin (Institute of Middle Eastern Studies, KCL) , Theatre practitioner Maria Pattinson and contributors globally.  Her sculptural works –  rooted in her transcultural experience as a British-Iranian –  are  on show at Swiss Cottage Library Gallery as part of Tall Tales touring until May 29th.

Recent projects include Burning the Books (2011-15), a touring work provoking debate and performing imaginary debt relief for over a thousand contributors, All About The Gift at Freud Museum London and the Suffrage /Race Relations Acts banner works for the Magna Carta 2015 Anniversary at Westminster Hall.
