Join us for a discussion on the production of urban space

This book launch brings together four well renowned and provocative scholars to provide their unique take on issues under the banner of the city, space and urbanism, in the context of the publication of Michael Leary-Owhin’s new book:

Exploring the production of urban space: Differential space in three post-industrial cities published by Policy Press February 2016.

The format of the event encourages those attending to become involved in the discussion and debate. The ideas of Henri Lefebvre regarding the production of urban space have become increasingly useful for understanding worldwide post-industrial city transformation. This important book uses new international comparative research to engage critically with Lefebvre’s spatial theories and challenge recent thinking about the nature of urban public space. Extensive original research in Vancouver, Lowell MA and Manchester, England, explains how urban public spaces, especially differential space, are contested and socially produced. Spatial coalitions, counter-representations and counter-projects are seen as vital elements in the production of urban space.

This free event will be of interest to: academics, researchers and postgraduate students in the fields of urban: geography, planning, policy, politics, regeneration and sociology. It will also be relevant for politicians, policy makers and urban activists.

Refreshments will be available.
