Weaving Migrations is an audiovisual installation about cultural interactions between students and staff of London College of Communication and workers and visitors in the Elephant and Castle Shopping Centre.
The installation showcases three short films with binaural sound, interweaving everyday observations, feelings and memories about both places from members of the respective communities. The installation will act as a metaphorical link following the permanent closure of the pedestrian subway which once physically linked the two spaces.
Weaving Migrations will be displayed simultaneously in two spaces: the Upper Gallery at LCC and La Bodeguita restaurant and café in the Shopping Centre. This has been one of the most popular places for the LCC community to gather for relaxation, food, retirement and farewell parties for many years. It is also an icon of the Colombian community, one of the biggest migrant communities that has lived and worked in the area of Elephant and Castle.
