Dvořák Serenade in E major, Op 22
This inspiring programme is focused around two Serenades, both masterpieces of the string repertoire.
Written in 1943, Britten’s Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings is a setting of six English poems on the subject of night. Written some sixty years earlier Dvořák’s Serenade encapsulates an auspicious time in the composer’s life, a work full of charm, lyricism and exuberance.
Complementing the Serenades are new works celebrating the wealth of talent of our own composers, student Ben Pearson and professor Ken Paige. The programme is completed by Arvo Pärt’s Cantus In Memoriam Benjamin Britten.
