Jim Dine, born in 1935 in Cincinnati, Ohio, is considered one of the most significant artists of his generation, with a practice that includes painting, sculpture, performance, poetry and printmaking. He first established himself through Happenings (1959-60) along with Allan Kaprow and Claes Oldenburg, and then as one of the pioneers of Pop Art alongside artists such as Roy Lichtenstein, Edward Rushca and Andy Warhol.

Throughout his career, printmaking has been a constant source of both experimentation and innovation. Widely regarded as one of the finest printmakers working today, this conversation will focus on the role that printmaking has within his overall practice. He has produced memorable works in a wide range of print media including woodcut, etching and lithography, and most recently, an epic series entitled A History of Communism, in which Dine has taken lithographic stones, salvaged from a socialist art academy in the former German Democratic Republic, as starting points onto which he has overprinted and woven his own iconography.
