This guided walk around Spitalfields launches ‘Zangwill’s Spitalfields’, a new app created by Dr Nadia Valman (English Department, Queen Mary University of London) with the Jewish Museum, London and Soda Ltd.

The app brings together archive sources including photographs, documents and digitised objects from the Museum to evoke the rich, fraught milieu of Jewish immigrant life in Victorian Spitalfields, using Israel Zangwill’s terrific 1892 novel Children of the Ghetto as a walking guide to the neighbourhood.

Hear about the making of the app and sample its content as we explore the traces of Zangwill’s Spitalfields in today’s streets.

The walk starts and ends at Toynbee Studios.
Instructions for downloading the App will be sent before the walk to those who have registered.
