This interdisciplinary conference brings together expert speakers from Middlesex University, the University of Greenwich and the shipping industry to discuss several major social, economic and political concerns of maritime governance in evidence around the world today.

This event will explore a range of contemporary issues related to the use of and regulation of the world’s oceans and seas, including the Mediterranean migrant crisis; Russian expansion into the Black Sea; the political implications of climate change for the Arctic Ocean; the expansion of the Chinese shipping market; the global regulation of cargo haulage; and the changing role of international ports.

  • Richard Scott, Visiting Lecturer at the University of Greenwich and Managing Director of Bulk Shipping Analysis
  • Dr Minghua Zhao, Director of the China Maritime Centre at the University of Greenwich
