Lost in Thought invites you to reimagine what opera can be in a totally new music theatre experience, taking you on an intimate and shared journey of mindfulness.

Rolf Hind music and concept
Frederic Wake-Walker director
Lore Lixenberg mezzo-soprano
Mahogany Opera Group

Full of strange beauty, Rolf Hind’s ambient music explores otherworldly sonorities, perfectly created to guide the audience through the session. This is an opera with the audience at its core – and with moments of rest, contemplation, meditation and communal eating, the drama is found within, not without.

Speaking of her experiences with the project, singer and meditation leader Lore Lixenberg says “for people who already meditate, it will deepen that experience – for people doing this for the first time, the music helps to form a kind of bridge to explore meditation and mindfulness.”

This four hour immersive performance is designed for an intimate audience of 100. During the course of the session the audience will be asked to participate in various activities that reflect the structure of a silent retreat. All of these activities are optional and you can get involved as much or as little as you would like. Please note that the meditation elements of the work will be taught by leaders, and no previous experience is required. We recommend wearing loose, warm, comfortable clothing.

Find out more about mindfulness at Symposium: Mindfulness in Music & Art on 28 September, part of a series of events around the world premiere of Lost in Thought, and featuring a roundtable of musicians and mindfulness practitioners including composer Rolf Hind and director Frederic Wake-Walker.
