Within studies of early modern material culture, we seem to have much more knowledge about the motivations for collecting, and how specific objects enter a collection, than how and why certain objects were used once inside. In order to generate a discussion of this issue using the broadest definition of the term ‘collection’ (including cabinets, museums, sculpture galleries, literary miscellanies, menageries, herbaria, gardens, houses), this one-day symposium will bring together early modern scholars of several disciplines in order to showcase their work across a variety of collections: anatomical, domestic, royal, antiquarian, military, natural historical, literary and artistic.
Looking forward @JS_Diaspora opening a discussion with stimulus from award winning film #MyNameIs @mynameisdocu on 'Decolonising the self before we can decolonise HE & culture' @RADA_London via @InfoTCCE tomorrow as part of a broader event from 1pm to 3pm.
