Over twenty years of work on personal photography, film and cultural memory, Annette Kuhn has delved deeply into the relationship between personal, collective, cultural and social memory, developing tools for understanding how memory works through photography, film and other visual media. Marking Annette’s appointment as Emeritus Professor in Film Studies at Queen Mary University of London, Pictures, Places and Living Memory will be an informal celebration of her past and continuing achievements as well as an opportunity to discover work on memory, place, photography and film by a new generation of scholars and creative artists.

An afternoon of informal talks and discussion with Nicky Bird (Glasgow School of Art), Charlotte Crofts (University of the West of England) and Richard MacDonald (Goldsmiths University of London) will be hosted by Professor Susannah Radstone (University of South Australia) in one of London’s most remarkable Arts and Crafts buildings. This will be followed by an evening of al fresco drinks and conversation.

This event is free but spaces are limited.
