Charpentier Actéon
The Guildhall Cantata Ensemble continues its exploration of Charpentier’s influence on Handel through the former’s teacher, Giacomo Carissimi. Accompanied by recorders, violins, gamba, cello, theorbo and harpsichord, this lunchtime concert presents what many believe to be Charpentier’s finest piece of musical theatre, a Pastorale in the form of a tragédie en musique depicting the tragic and gory demise of the hunter Actéon.
Part of the London Handel Festival.
