Royal Holloway’s Dr Akil Awan from the Department of History and Professor Ben O’Loughlin from the Department of Politics and International Relations recently returned from Atlanta after co-hosting a workshop discussing the current conflict in Syria.
The workshop focussed on devising solutions to end sectarian conflict, encourage political reconciliation, and re-build Syria’s nation. After three days of intense debate, the participants proposed a number of projects to be taken forward by the Carter Center, Royal Holloway and Georgia State University.
The workshop was opened to the public in a live CNN broadcast where participants in the workshop answered questions from a live audience.
