Professor Maria M. Delgado

Maria M. Delgado is an academic, critic and curator. She is currently Professor of Theatre and Screen Arts at Queen Mary, University of London and co-editor of the Routledge journal, Contemporary Theatre Review.

She has published widely in the area of European theatre: her books include Federico García Lorca (Routledge 2008) and ‘Other’ Spanish Theatres (MUP, 2003) and eight co-edited volumes. Her translations of the work of Ramón del Valle-Inclán, Bernard-Marie Koltès and Mario Benedetti have been staged in theatres in the UK, USA and Australia.

Her film work includes 16 years as a programme advisor (on Spanish and Spanish-American Cinema) to the London Film Festival. She has also curated work for the Ciné Lumière and BFI Southbank and is a programming associate for the Argentine Film Festival London. She writes on film and theatre for a range of publications including Sight & Sound and Plays International, and is a regular contributor to a range of BBC Radio programmes.

She has served on a range of juries and panels — including the Rolex 2001-02 Mentor and Protégé Nominating Panel and the Argentine competition BAFICI (Buenos Aires Independent Film Festival, 2012). She is Chair of the Board of Actors Touring Company [ATC] and an artistic assessor for Arts Council England. She is currently chair of subpanel 35 (Music, Drama, Dance and Performing Arts) for REF2014.
