Trinity Laban awards Professorship to Wayne McGregor

World class choreographer Wayne McGregor has been appointed Professor of Choreography at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. Wayne joined the staff of Trinity Laban in September 2013 as a development of the partnership with Wayne McGregor | Random Dance. The Academic Board has now conferred the title of Professor in recognition of his status as an eminent artist researcher of international distinction. Wayne McGregor is known for his physically testing choreography and ground-breaking collaborations. Since 2000, Wayne McGregor | Random Dance has been collaborating with artists and researchers from fields such as cognitive and social science, seeking new understanding of choreographic practice and thinking.

Trinity Laban Principal, Professor Anthony Bowne, said:“The appointment of Wayne McGregor significantly enhances our research activity where practice as research – creative practice and high level artistic outputs – is the primary focus. We are delighted to welcome Wayne to our research department where he joins other distinguished music and dance colleagues. We know also that his contribution to teaching will be greatly appreciated by staff and by students at all levels….We look forward to the inspiring and thought-provoking dialogue and creative activity that I know Wayne’s appointment will stimulate”.

Wayne McGregor said: “The Random team’s ongoing research into the science of making dances continues to fascinate and present fresh challenges both creatively and cognitively. I am delighted and honoured to accept the Professorship at Trinity Laban and look forward to our evolving collaboration”.
