‘Athletics versus Aesthetics’: Prefiguring the closet in Victorian Britain

A seminar with Dominic Janes (Birkbeck, University of London).

This talk will be looking at a case study from this project that focusses on the satirical depiction of beautiful/athletic and ugly/aesthetic male bodies as an example of the prefiguring of the closet in Victorian Britain.
