To mark the centenary of legendary graphic designer Tom Eckersley’s birth, London College of Communication presents an exhibition of iconic Eckersley poster designs which celebrate his enormous contribution to graphic communication and design education in Britain.
The show features posters selected from the University of the Arts London’s Eckersley archive, housed at London College of Communication, where Eckersley set up the first undergraduate graphic design degree course in 1954, back when it was the London College of Printing.
During a long and distinguished career Eckersley is recognised as being instrumental in conceptualising modern graphic design as a professional practice of communication distinct from commercial art. And the show will also bring together reflections on his life and career from those he influenced over six decades as a designer, teacher and undoubted master of the poster.
