How complicated can it be to achieve gender balance all the way to the top of the biggest and brightest global organisations? Women have the education and the skills to make it and they’re continuing their careers through family life. Companies have data on every member of staff’s performance. Governments, regulators and shareholders are watching, asking questions and setting soft and hard targets around the world. 

Join us as diversity champion Birgit Neu shares the ups and downs of her own non-linear career journey across sectors, functions, continents and personal life stories. Birgit will talk about what happened when, with no previous background as a feminist or human resources expert, she was asked to cast a corporate eye over how organisations were addressing gender balance concerns. Leveraging her untraditional experience across sales, marketing, communications, programme management, and a few other bits and pieces thrown in for good measure, Birgit rolled up her sleeves to find out what happens when diversity theory is put into practice, and how practice can come back around to throw up a few new theories. Her journey will prompt us to review our assumptions about the world of work, the role of men in the gender debates, and our own ability to drive change.
