The Textile Futures Research Centre is happy to announce that En Vie, aux frontiers du design – Alive, new design frontiers, an exhibition curated by TFRC Deputy Director Carole Collet and produced by the EDF Fondation is now open.
Taking place in the Espace Fondation EDF in Paris, the exhibition presents an incredible collection of designers and artists who are working in the awe-inspiring emerging area of “design with the living”.
A new breed of designers has begun to reshape our world by re-orchestrating our relationship to nature. Some act as ‘Plagiarists’ mimicking the way nature operates. Others choose to co-design with nature as ‘Bio-Artisans’. Some turn ‘Alchemists’ and collaborate with synthetic biologists to re-programme living organisms. While other designers become ‘Agent Provocateurs’ and explore the ethics and risks of designing with living technology. These designers create and unravel a future hybrid world, where our everyday products and manufacturing tools will be ‘alive’.
En Vie – Alive showcases a range of designers, architects and researchers who are negotiating these new relationships with nature and will showcase living architecture, industrial design, furniture, interaction design, jewellery, textiles, fashion, food design, photography, and film.
Featured projects include works by TFRC Deputy Director Carole Collet, TFRC Research Assistant Natsai Chieza and TFRC PhD students Marin Sawa and Amy Congdon.
