The Culture Capital Exchange facilitated a roundtable discussion with the Arts and Humanities Research Council in which key representatives from both the Fashion Industry and academia contributed. The roundtable was a much needed opportunity to raise discourses surrounding how research funding could best be directed to support the fashion industry.
This focussed debate provided participants with an occasion to share insights and influence policy and research spending. Suggested areas of research that surfaced from the discussion included sustainability and ethical issues in the global fashion market, design for closed loop and circular economy, neglected potential of local enterprise partnerships, ‘designer residencies’ within Higher Education Institutions, and funding for ‘blue-sky’ thinking.
Contributors/Speakers: Professor Frances Corner OBE, Head of London College of Fashion, Pro Vice‐Chancellor University of the Arts London; Professor Rick Rylance, CEO of the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC); Sally Taylor, former Executive Director of TCCE and Chief Executive of the Koestler Trust.
