How are thrillers different from other kinds of texts? How do they reflect the ideology of the culture in which they are situated? What sort of language do they use? And how have they been or can they be translated? This talk explores the translation of detective stories and the ideology that shapes them, using examples from Maj Sjöwall and Per Wahlöö’s ten books about Martin Beck (1965 – 1975) and Stieg Larsson’s three books about Lisbeth Salander (2005 – 2007).
This event will be followed by a reception.
