Do you have a garment that tells the story of how it’s been used? If so, please join us to tell your tale and be photographed in your piece on Wednesday 5 December 12 – 7pm at Carnaby Book Exchange, G5, Ground floor, Kingly Court, London, W1B 5PW.
The Centre for Sustainable Fashion is gathering stories and taking portraits as part of the Local Wisdom Project. Contact more@localwisdom.info to register or alternatively just turn up on the day! Details of the types of stories we’re looking for can be found at www.localwisdom.info.
Local Wisdom invites people to local venues for a community photoshoot gathering unique and moving stories about how they use and care for their clothing and was conceived in 2009 by Dr Kate Fletcher, Reader in Sustainable Fashion at the Centre for Sustainable Fashion.
The project, which links together a network of partners and design activity in seven centres of high fashion consumption spread across three continents, explores satisfying and resourceful practices associated with using clothes. This ‘craft of use’ aims to challenge the dependency of the fashion industry on increasing material throughout and propose solutions through sustained attention to tending and using garments and not just creating them.
