The Rules of Engagement Seminar Series

A series of informal seminars aimed at assisting academic researchers communicate their research in a range of public situations and media.  Topics covered include expressing complex ideas in an accessible way, making the most of networking, top tips on public speaking, blogging, tweeting, and presenting yourself and your ideas to the media.

Broadcasting your ideas: 29 March 2012

Vicky Jepson is an experienced TV producer and media trainer.  Her session will cover hints and tips for pitching your ideas to the broadcast media and how to present yourself on radio and television.

Vicky Jepson  is an award winning Producer and Trainer. Vicky has a track record in making factual entertainment TV & radio. She also trains young people and professionals in Media Production Techniques for the BBC Academy, Inside Knowledge and Creative Partnerships.  With years of experience in the communications industry,   Vicky also works with public sector organisations such as Forestry Commission and Defra, training senior managers in how to communicate their message effectively in radio, TV and print interviews.

 

With over 20 years of experience in the industry, Vicky has produced a diverse range of high quality programmes, from one-off documentaries to high volume series, outside broadcasts to live shows, location to studio. She is used to running large production teams, working within a range of budgets and managing on-screen talent, both high profile and new to television.   Presenters she has worked with range from Alan Titchmarsh to Jo Brand, Michael Parkinson to Graham Norton.   Recent credits  include “The Hairy Bikers”, Channel 4’s Ten Years Younger and the BBC coverage of  Chelsea Flower Show.


Anya Matthews
is a PR professional with a wealth of experience in the arts and public sector.  She will lead a session on how to place your ideas in print based media including how to choose whether to focus on print or online publications, how the commissioning process works behind the scenes, and how to capture an editor’s attention.

Anya Matthews worked in arts PR for 8 years for Shakespeare’s Globe, the St Paul’s Cathedral tercentenary restoration campaign, English Heritage and latterly as an Account Director at Colman Getty, a leading independent consultancy. She has also undertaken PR consultancy for the National Trust and for the organiser of today’s event: The Culture Capital Exchange.   Having completed an MA in early modern British Architecture at the Courtauld Institute of Art last year, Anya is now a first year PhD student there researching the architecture of London’s Livery Company Halls after the Great Fire of London.
