Peckham Space – Art at the Centre of Everyday Life

Event Details

Date:
19th July, 2011
Time:
17:30 - 19:00
Venue:
Peckham Space, University of the Arts London, 89 Peckham High Street, London SE15 5RS

Peckham Space, the Royal Society of Arts (RSA) Fellowship and the London Centre for Arts and Cultural Exchange (LCACE) hosted a dialogue between artist and academic, David Cotterrell, and the Chief Executive of the RSA, Matthew Taylor. The conversation took David Cotterrell’s new commission Slipstream as a starting point, and evolved to pick up on some of the fascinating and provocative ideas contained in the then recent essay ‘Arts Funding, Austerity and the Big Society’ by John Knell and Matthew Taylor. The lively and thought-provoking “in conversation” evening event unpicked whether art can or should necessarily be at the centre of everyday life and, if so, how might that take place.

Contributors/Speakers: David Cotterrell, artist and academic; Matthew Taylor, Chief Executive of the Royal Society of Arts.
